But first I need to…

Have you ever found yourself saying, “My life will be calm but first I need to __________.”

You fill in the blank… it can be, first I need to: respond to emails, finish my latest project, do the laundry, etc.

This can be a habit that is hard to break.

When I find myself saying these words, I am usually pushing the most important things to the side.

It is easy to get carried away with our busy schedules and long to- do lists but it is very important that we don’t let these things consume every part of us that we forget what is most important.

Sometimes, if we are not careful, we can get carried away with our “busyness” that we neglect God. Sometimes, it can even be our families.

I think in order to break this habit, it is important to establish good habits.

For example:

I never want to get too busy or rushed in the mornings that I don’t have time to do a devotion and have quiet time with God. Therefore, that is the first thing I do in the mornings. I wash my face, brush my teeth, and I have my quiet time before I even start to get ready for the day.

Harry and I have a rule where we put our phones away in the evenings for at least an hour so we focus on conversation with each other and eat dinner without being distracted by any alerts going off on our phones.

This is certainly an area, that we are always trying to improve in!

I love this bible verse! Sometimes, we need only to be still.
