“Come close to God and God will come close to you.” James 4:8
A couple weeks ago, I blogged about establishing a prayer routine. Now it is time to schedule a time in your day to get into God’s word. For me, I like to start off my day with God. I wake up and do my morning devotion in my Bible. (Harry bought me a really cool Devotional Bible where you can read a devotion that corresponds with stories in the Bible.)
You can find it here: Real Life Devotional Bible
I admit it is very difficult sometimes to find time each morning to read in the Bible. This summer has been easy because I have a lot of extra time in the mornings. However, when I’m teaching and waking up at the crack of dawn, I barely have enough time to throw on some mascara before I’m out the door. Sometimes, I would take my bible to work with me and do my devotions during my planning period. I’m setting a goal for myself to wake up an extra 15 minutes this school year because I know it will make the biggest difference in my day.
Side Note: Lesson Learned: It shouldn’t be about fitting God into our schedules but rather, we should schedule our days around God.
Just a couple weeks ago, I woke up and went out the door to run some errands for the day without opening my Bible or closing my eyes to pray that morning. As soon as I got out the door, EVERYTHING went wrong. I went out the door without my drivers license and had to turn around, I went to purchase something and I did not have my debit card, then I went to the bank to FINALLY change my debit card to my married name and they needed my marriage license, but of course I didn’t think to take that with me. So, I came right back home and opened up my Bible and talked with God to restart my day. He will use anything to get our attention and he definitely had mine that morning.
When we are focused on God and His plan for our lives, He will completely transform us. Nothing will be able to drag us down. He transforms the way we think, act, speak, and treat others. He gives us such a hope and a peace in this crazy world we live in. Start your day off right and set apart special time to spend with God. Don’t just pencil it in if you can, instead, make it a priority. I promise, it will make such a difference!
