Capers: One month update!

Happy New Year!!!!!

We are entering 2024 as a family of 4 with this sweet new addition, who is officially one month old today!

~

I am back on the blog with my first blog post of 2024 to recap Capers’ first month!

Just like with Brewer’s “monthly recaps” when he was a baby, I’ll talk about Capers’ experiences this month, likes, dislikes, and how we’re all doing including mom & dad!

~

It has been the most incredible month in every way. From the moment he arrived, it just felt like he belonged here. It’s already hard to remember the days without him in our family.

Capers made his grand entrance 3 weeks early, on December 1st, 2023.

Third trimester recap + Capers’ birth story!

There is nothing like being handed your baby for the first time…… and wearing a Santa hat! Capers wore this the entire month of December! Haha. We are savoring that sweetness!

Those first couple of days with him in the hospital were special. He’s been a dream baby from the moment he was born.

And these moments were the most sacred… when Brewer met Capers and we officially became a family of 4!

We’ve all been so smitten since bringing Capers home from the hospital! Especially Brewer who is so sweet and always wants to help! #BestBigBrother

It felt like a dream bringing a baby home from the hospital during the magic of the Christmas season!

This month, Capers loved to gaze at the Christmas tree!

And he wore all of the little Christmas outfits

We really spent those first few weeks of newborn heaven, snuggled by the tree, making memories at home!

Brewer stayed home from daycare during the first month to try to keep germs away. That was really special because Brewer spent a lot of time getting to know his baby brother and vice versa. We’ve already caught Capers staring and watching Brewer several times! It’s so sweet!

Capers is a great napper just like his brother! The 3 of us took the best naps together this month.

Little brother syndrome! Haha

Capers got to experience several of our “Christmas traditions” this month like Jammy CoCoa Christmas where we rode around town in our Jammie’s looking at Christmas lights with our sweet treats!

Tis the season!

Capers was also here to celebrate Harry’s birthday this year! “32 & Dad of 2”

Harry had lots of time off this month to spend with us at home and will take a paternity leave this spring! Capers already loves his daddy just like Brewer does!

Capers had his first two check ups this month and did great! We are so grateful for a healthy baby. He was born at 7.10 lb and at his two week check- up, he weighed 8.7 lb.

Capers is going to learn things so quickly from his big brother! It really is so sweet how alert Capers is when Brewer is near!

Capers had his first bath this month and he was not a fan! He likes to be warm and snuggly so the first bath was not a hit. Since then, he has warmed up to bath time and doesn’t seem to mind it. He still doesn’t like the transition out of the tub but who does? Lol

Capers had his first stroll around the meadow this month. He does really well in the stroller and the car, so far!

He likes to make kissy faces just like his brother! I took the photo of Capers on the left and it reminded me of the photo of Brewer on the right!

Capers met lots of family this month! So many more not pictured. Harry & I both come from big families!

He also got to meet several of our besties this month! A couple more not pictured. It’s been so fun introducing him to those who will be special people in his life!

Capers also met a very, very important person this month.. Santa!!! I will treasure these newborn Santa photos forever! He has done so well with everyone he met this month, including Santa!

Capers’ first Christmas Eve! The theme for our matching pajamas this year was “baby blue Christmas” in honor of his arrival this Christmas season!

And his very first Christmas morning! He slept right through it, haha. The newborn snuggles on Christmas morning were everything.

Capers’ first trip to Clover was on Christmas Day! Here he is sleeping in the same cradle I slept in as a baby!

It was a very “Capers Christmas” in newborn bliss!

He made it a Christmas to remember!

Capers’ 1st Christmas

The week after Christmas looked a lot like this!

After he was born, he slept 22-23 hours a day. He stayed in that sleepy era for a while. We thought it was because he was born at 37 weeks. He’s slowly coming alive more and more but he remains a calm baby overall! Harry & I look at each other daily and say.. how is this real? He’s been a dream baby.

He wakes up about 3X a night to feed (to be expected right now) but he’s been going back to sleep pretty easily!

My sister and I talk on the phone all the time. She says, “I forget that you even have him because I never hear him.”

My sweet second born! ❤

Okay, let’s talk about some more things!

Like…

Other things Capers likes:

-He loves to be held. I think he’s happiest in our arms!

-Eating.. haha! He’s done great with feedings. He’s going to love food just like big brother & Dad

*I attempted breastfeeding and just like with Brewer, my body does not produce enough. I am perfectly okay with that, so bottle feeding it is and it’s working great! He’s growing like a champ!*

-The snuggle me! He sleeps in the snuggle me, in our bed at night and loves it.

-he loves his noise machine

Things Capers does not like:

-being naked.. he prefers warm and snuggly! We try to make changing diapers and clothes fast

That’s really all I have for this list right now. He’s been such a chill baby. I’m sure I’ll have more to add over the next few months!

How is mom and dad doing?

We’re doing well! We’re a little tired from getting up during the night for feedings. That’s to be expected. It’s harder to just “sleep when baby sleeps” this time around because we have a toddler too! Haha. But we’re blessed that he’s been a very easy baby so far. We are counting our blessings!

I don’t really deal with any “postpartum blues” and I think it’s because my pregnancies get difficult, especially toward the end. I just feel so much relief once baby is born and I instantly feel better! Recovery has been really smooth and I’m so grateful for that!

And big brother Brewer.. well he hasn’t missed a beat! I didn’t expect him to care too much about baby but he loves Capers. The brother bond is already making my heart melt!

We have had an overall smooth transition going from 1 to 2 babies!

That wraps up Capers’ first month!

We rang in the new year as a family of 4 last night! Poppin’ bottles 🍼🍼 haha!

It feels like we had this magical first Christmas month with Capers and now we’re excited to walk through the new year, all the seasons, all the holidays, traditions, many firsts, and continue getting to know him!

Happy one month to our sweet baby boy!

~

*I am back to a normal blog routine! I will be back for my second post for this week, tomorrow!*

Happy, Happy first day of 2024!
