A Day in the Life

Happy Friday!!!!

We made it to Friday and for a lot of people, we made it through the first week of working from home!! #QuarantineLife

Yesterday was also the FIRST DAY OF SPRING!

Today, I am sharing “a day in the life.” I documented my Wednesday, March 18th from this week to share with y’all.

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, then you know that I LOVE these posts! They are so much fun to look back on. I pick ordinary days on the calendar ahead of time to document. I pick days where nothing is currently planned & if plans arise before that day- great, and if not- that’s great too. I really want these posts to be authentic and a true “day in the life.”

I try to do 3 “day in the life” posts a year: a weekday during the school year, a weekday during the summer, and a weekend day.

Originally, this would have been my first “day in the life” featuring a work day. However, as you know, #CoronaVirus has sort of changed things. Let me say, during a work day- when I’m teaching, I can’t really snap a whole lot of photos. I had planned to go back at the end of the day and snap photos of lessons, things we learned, etc.

Wednesday, March 18th was actually my last day of work for a while due to the corona virus. We did not have students at all this week. So here is how my day went…

I didn’t have to be at work until 8 on this particular day, so I slept in a bit later than normal. Usually, I have to be there by 7:25. So at 6:50, I woke up and quickly got ready!

I had my quiet time with the Lord that morning. I have a devotion book that has a devotion for each day of the year. I COULD NOT BELIEVE THIS DEVOTION ON THIS DAY!! I believe that God can take anything that the enemy meant for evil and turn it for good. What if that’s exactly what he’s doing with the corona virus and everyone being quarantined? He’s going to grow us in Him during this time! We just have to open our hearts and allow Him to do so!

After my quiet time, I got in the car and headed to work. I ate poptarts in the car. #BreakfastOfChampions

After arriving at work, all teachers were making sure that students had received their work to do while we are all at home. We spent the beginning of the week getting all of that prepared.

A teacher at my school had a great idea to video teachers reading books for their students! I thought this was a FABULOUS idea. It gives the students “a piece of their school family” while we are all away from school.

I read a St. Patrick’s Day book that I had planned to read this week. I also linked the book in my blog post from this past Saturday because I love it so much! I love all of the “old lady” books. lol!

Next, we had some time to work in our classrooms! I decided to take some photos of my room. I always share photos of my classroom at the beginning of the year when it’s all nice & ready for a new group of kiddos. Now, you can see what it looks like months into the school year with my students work around the room, along with things we have learned! 🙂

I had my moring message ready for Monday morning and sadly, students were not able to return that day. I never changed the morning message because I honestly wasn’t sure what day to change it too… You can also see some word blends and things we have learned about on the wall!

This is where whole group learning takes place! Interesting fact.. we do calendar at the END of the day in 4K. It’s a way to review things we did that day and talk about what the weather was like at recess, etc. I left the calendar alone as well because I wasn’t sure which day/ week/ month to add.

Writing center… my student’s are becoming GREAT writers! That’s the writing process we use that you can see on the wall!

This is the house center along with some work that is displayed! We read the big book, “The Three Billy Goat’s Gruff” and I think that was probably a favorite of theirs. The little houses that are displayed are from a lesson where students drew their family members and we wrote their names!

block center/ tubs to store things/ math center

(In 4K, our classrooms have a lot of stuff because we do centers! This is a time for students to play and gain social skills through interacting with each other.)

Here you can see, “how we go home” and “morning routine” pictures. It’s hard to see the work displayed but we recently learned about alliteration. Students were given sentences and they had to go through and circle the alliteration letter!

Cubbies/ birthday wall/ science center

I’ve thought so many times about the birthdays that need to be celebrated at school this spring! Hopefully we get the opportunity to celebrate those!

Art center! This is a popular center year after year. Look at all their creativity!

We recently learned about the artist, Vincent Van Gogh! (We have an artist of the month that we learn about) Our students made “Starry Night” pictures like Vencent Van Gogh.

The buckets/ clipboards on the tables are book boxes that students use in the morning! Students sign- in by writing their name and they can look at books (or complete another task that is occasionally inside the box.)

That gives you an idea of what our days look like in the classroom. On Wednesday, after we had some time in our classrooms, we had a meeting in the library right before lunch time.

The meeting was brief and when it was over, we were told we could leave. Y’all no one got up… it was such a sad feeling leaving work, knowing we would not return for a while. Usually, we get excited for breaks but this was not a normal break. This wasn’t supposed to happen. It was a sad, reality feeling. We thought about how much we were going to miss each other and our students.

One more happy photo before leaving work! This is Kandace walking out of work preparing for #QuarantineLife LOL, she looked so funny with all her bags, we had to get a photo!

When I left work, it was so hard to wrap my mind around everything that’s happening. So, I called AnnaVee and we were going to meet for lunch. It took us several minutes of discussing where to meet before realizing that EVERYTHING IS CLOSED. Wow! Another shocking reality. So I went through the Chick Fil A drive thru and got us lunch & we ate in her office during her lunch break.

I headed home after having lunch with AnnaVee and I checked on the birds nest on our front porch. Have y’all seen the story about this on my IG stories? lol! Basically, Harry is not too thrilled about having baby birds on the front door but I think it gives us something to smile about during such a crazy time in the world!

Ace & I went on a long walk through the neighborhood and I got in a little work out at home!

Next, we spent time in the back yard once Harry was done working. (He is officially working from home too.) Not the best photo but I thought he should be a part of this post! lol!

We are LOVING the spring weather outside. We played with Ace for the longest time outside!

Next, we had dinner (left over chicken paprika), watched a little bit of tv, and went to bed!

And that is a “day in the life.”

(I also published a blog post on this day: What I Wore Wednesday )

I hope y’all have a great weekend and I’ll see everyone back on the blog, next week!!

I am also praying for this virus to quickly stop and praying for all who have been affected by it. My heart and prayers truly go out to those & their families.
