Tell All Tuesday: Home Decor Tips

Hello Blog Fam!!

And Happy Tuesday! You can find me inside cuddling my babies today! It’s going to be a rainy weather day where I live today. I love cozy weather days. 🤍

Today is my first, “Tell All Tuesday” post of 2024! I have some fun topics planned for this year!

This month’s topic is all about.. home decor tips!

I love home decor! After months of having the fall decor and then Christmas decor out, I get excited to have my house back in order to start the year. My everyday decor doesn’t really change in winter (besides Christmas) so my house really does feel “normal” with my everyday decor in January!

I thought now would be a good time to talk about home decor tips and maybe you can put some of these tips to use in 2024! Maybe some of these tips will also be helpful if you have seasonal decor that changes throughout the year!

Okay, here are my top 5 tips when it comes to home decor:

1. Make it cozy!

There is nothing more inviting than a cozy home. Add a pretty throw blanket to a sofa or have a nice wicker basket for blankets in your living room.

Light a seasonal candle! Ahh. I love this. I love swapping out my candles throughout the house to go with the season or you can always use a good year round candle with a nice linen scent, etc.

I’m also a lamp girly! I’m not a fan of overhead lights. There’s nothing like a few lamps on to make things feel cozy.

Everyone loves walking into a home that feels inviting!

2. Make it feel homey!

Of course, we all want our homes to feel like home. Incorporate pieces that make it feel that way.

I love framing family photos in our house and doing my best to keep photos up to date! That feels “homey” to me.

Decorate with plants! I love keeping fresh flowers on our kitchen island and a little potted plant (that never dies/ requires low maintenance) in our living area! Something about plants make a house feel like home.

3. Swap out Pillow Covers

Pillows are such an easy item to decorate with! I tend to switch out pillows in the fall season and the Christmas season. (I really do consider Christmas the 5th season of the year!) Switching out pillow covers vs. entire pillows helps storing them away easier and it gives your house a variety throughout the year if you like a little change!

4. Invest in decor that you love

I have learned that trends & styles come and go so quickly. Instead of trying to keep up with what’s “in” invest in pieces that you love! Go with what your heart is drawn to!

I like a lighter, brighter home. So I have lots of pastels including lots of light blues (my favorite color). We’ve been in our house 6 years this summer and I’ve never gotten tired of the color schemes we chose with paint colors + decor.

5. Focal Points

When you walk in a room, there should be a focal point. You don’t want to be overwhelmed by a bunch of stuff or a lot of little things. Instead, have a focal point! Maybe it’s art work or a piece of statement furniture. Something to draw attention!

Home decor can be pricey!! It’s okay to mix and combine expensive with inexpensive. Invest in your “focal points” and “fill in” with inexpensive things. And if you can score a deal on focal point pieces, that’s a win!

Okay, those are my thoughts when it comes to home decor!

Decorating a space has always been a passion of mine, wether it be a nursery, another room in my house, a classroom.. I just love it!
