Motivation Monday: Be the light!

Hello friends!!

Happy Monday!

This month, all things, “back to school” are upon us! I get excited for a new school year because it brings traditions, fun activities, new memories, football season, and all of my favorite holidays are around the corner!

I went back to work (even though I teach from home) last week and most students will be returning to school in the next week where I live.

For this month’s motivation post, I wanted to do a post for us teachers! Even though it’s about teachers today, anyone can relate this post to their own career field!

Harry and I talk a lot about our careers. We both say that, the thing we love most about our jobs is that we get to make a difference each day in education.

Harry works in enrollment at a college and I teach from home. We both get to talk with students, encourage them, help them, and be a light each day.

Being a light can mean being a listening ear for a student who has had a rough morning, comforting a student when you can tell they are down, a simple smile and, “how are you today?”, or even a surprise note/ gift to say, “you’re doing a good job!” to a teacher friend!

Our ultimate role on this earth is to be the hands and feet of Jesus! I believe teachers everywhere have the chance to be just that because we are working with God’s children.

Some days teaching can be hard. I have to remind myself of this quote, “it’s hard because it matters!”

Maybe it’s hard because we’re overwhelmed with testing data, maybe we are swamped in lesson plans, or maybe it’s certain student behaviors that we feel like we just can’t handle. Most of the time, students aren’t trying to give us a hard time, but instead, they’re having a hard time!

I have to remind myself that I was called to this job because God has equipped me to do this job. He has also hand picked every student in my class with a purpose! Those students need us!

Every school year, I hope my kindergarten students learn to count, learn their letters, and learn how to read. Above all though, I hope they learn to love school. I teach a grade that really lays the foundation for students educational journeys.

I want each student to leave my class, thinking I love school, my teacher loved me, we had fun, I felt safe, and I felt important. That’s what I really hope students learn and I hope they are excited for the next grade!

I’m praying for all of my teacher friends today!

No matter what career field you’re in, remember your “why” today and go be a light!
